From 4 July 2022 a new building work levy will apply to building work on class 2 (residential) buildings, and buildings that have a class 2 part, where an Expected Completion Notice (ECN) is submitted or amended after 3 July 2022.
The levy will apply to new buildings as well building work with cost of work of $150,000 (incl GST) . However, buildings with less than five units are exempt as is building work that is exempt under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020
The levy is intended to provide an ongoing funding source to support the NSW building reforms. Developers will need to pay the levy through the NSW Planning Portal, as part of their submission of an expected completion notice and prior to submitting an application for an Occupation Certificate.
